Missouri Artists On Main invites you to enter our new show "Words". Words can be an interesting addition to a piece of artwork. Sometimes the words are hidden in the artwork, while some are present on top of the artwork. Theaters have marques advertising an upcoming event which could have one or many words. Some objects are labeled, while others we recognize by just looking. We know words can be happy or hurtful. How will you use words? The entries for this show can be 2D or 3D. Please no profanity! The judge may disqualify your work.
Juror: Rene' Hoppenbrouwers was born in the Netherlands. He gained his master degrees in art history and classic archaeology at the University of Nijmegen. During the summer he worked in Pompeii and later led students groups on scientific projects there. He taught different art history courses at the university and assisted his professors.
After graduating, he enrolled in the 5 year Paintings/Sculpture Conservation program in the historic town of Maastricht. As an intern in the Mauritshuis and Rijksmuserm, he had the opportunity to study and restore many 17th Century paintings.
With his art conservation degree, he taught classes for the Maastricht Restoration studios, articipated in scientific research on the aging processes in paintings and gave summer courses to international museum professionals focussing on historic painting techniques. He also taught preventive conservation courses at different universities and for museum employees.
Being a "jack of all trades", he was the director's right hand and covered many areas; running the studios, the post graduate study program and research projects. He even initiated a 7 year grant program between The Metropolitan Museum of Art and India in order to eduate young Indian conservation specialists in the Netherlands and the U.S.
Ultimately, he became director of the conservations studios and cotinued to work with the Royal Collection, Dutch Monument Care and many museums and churches in order to preserve the collections and the interiors of these grand structures.
Four years ago, after retirement, he moved with his family to St. Charles in order to take care of his in-laws. Surrounded by art on a daily basis, Rene' has a great appreciation for a variety of art genres. He feels it is an honor to have been invited to jury the current show at MAOM.
